Seating is used to rest. Seating can range from walls to rock outcrops to purchased furniture. Ideally seating is located so that it is both a focal point and gives restful views. There is a concept called prospect-refuge in garden design theory. This states that people are most comfortable when seated at a vantage point to see out into the landscape with his/her back to a “wall”. The idea is to create a nook for seating that leaves the sitter feeling protected and comfortable.
