Rock is an invaluable element in the landscape. In many areas of Central Alabama, the depth to bedrock is shallow. I try to reveal natural stone outcrops as much as possible on my jobs. These outcrops impart a strong sense of place and permanence to the garden. They can also be very low maintenance (no watering necessary). When stone is not present, it can be brought in placed correctly to make reference to nature. All stone features shown in this section were designed and built (or uncovered) by John Russell Landscape Architect, Inc.
